H&M presents 3 new sustainable materials
H&M takes a further step towards sustainability with its new collection under the slogan “Let’s Wear The Waste” (Let’s dress from waste). The Swedish brand has been committed for years to creating more sustainable pieces, this new collection of avant-garde inspiration and full of color is one more step in the right direction.
In the words of Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M Creative Advisor:
For Conscious Exclusive A / W20, we wanted to pioneer – pushing the limits of creativity and sustainable fashion – by focusing on waste. As a result, the pieces in this collection are made from truly amazing materials produced from waste. By working with this type of transformation and being able to speak to our clients through beauty, we hope that waste can be part of the future of sustainable fashion.
The patterns throughout the collection are inspired by vintage floral wallpaper. Likewise, made from recycled polyester, the garments have also been created from 3 revolutionary sustainable materials. We speak of Agraloop ™ Hemp Biofibre ™ a natural fiber derived from the remains of the hemp harvest; Eastman Naia ™ Renew a cellulose yarn made from recycled wood fibers and plastic waste, and Made of Air® a non-carbon producing plastic. In addition to the innovative coloring process that uses less water and energy, We aRe SpinDye®.
A colorful, avant-garde, and sustainable collection
The collection, starring Australian model and activist Zinnia Kumar, includes two recycled polyester dresses: a yellow off-the-shoulder floral print dress and a wrap dress with a V-neckline, puff sleeves, and a green floral print.
It also features two mini dresses: one in green fitted with recycled polyester taffeta and the other in soft recycled polyester mesh covered with fabric flowers. These are some of the highlights of the women’s collection.
On the other hand, in the men’s collection, we find an elegant black tuxedo jacket in recycled polyester, Tencel, and wool blend with a removable floral decoration.
A floral yellow shirt jacket also made of recycled polyester and a jacket black shirt created with the innovative Agraloop ™ Hemp Biofibre ™ fiber, created from the remains of food crops.
Footwear and accessories
To complement all these pieces, the collection has multifunction high-heeled boots made with vegan leather convertible into mules and decorated with decorative clips or chains. With necklaces and choker earrings made from recycled metals and sunglasses made in part with biomass from waste.
